TAX SEASON OPENS JANUARY 27, 2025.

Tax Season  Officially Starts

January 27, 2025

But we are already filing returns…
Get ready to tackle the upcoming tax season head-on! It’s smart to start preparing early.

Although we are already hard at work preparing returns, tax season is officially open January 27, 2025. If you would like to file your return by the April 15th deadline, let’s get started!

Here are the first steps you can take to get everything in order for your 2024 tax return:

1. **Set up an IRS account**: A tax account will help you easily access notices, verify Wage and Income Transcripts, and set up Installment Agreements. Visit the IRS website to set up your account at https://www.irs.gov/payments/online-account-for-individuals.

2. **Set up a taxpayer account in your state**: This is important for managing your state tax obligations.

3. **Gather and organize your tax documents**: Having well-organized records can make filing a complete and accurate return easier and help avoid errors that can delay refunds. Keep an eye out for essential forms like W-2s, 1099Rs, K1s, 1099Bs, and more. Most income is taxable, including unemployment compensation, refund interest, and income from the gig economy and digital assets.

4. **Use a tax organizer**: A tax organizer can refresh your memory and ensure nothing is left out of your filed return. You can download a basic organizer to fill out online or, if you are a returning client, request a custom organizer using the information from your past filed returns. Download an Organizer below.

5. **Request an appointment**: Schedule a time to review what is needed to have your return prepared. You can make anappointment automatically using this calendly link https://calendly.com/evanstaxla/30-minute-current-client-call. If you don’t see a preferred time slot or would like to meet online or in person, email or text to set it up.
6. **Upload your documents**: Upload your documents to an encrypted file using your secure individual link we provide for you.

7. **Request an extension**: If you need more time to file, make sure to request an extension to be filed on your behalf.

8. **Add important email addresses to your contact list**: Add stephanie@evanstax.net to your email address book to ensure you receive updates and tax information throughout the season.
